    About the guide

    Matias Zuñiga

    My name is Matias Zuñiga, and since 1997 I have dedicated my life to the mountains. Based in Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes, I have spent nearly three decades guiding high-altitude expeditions across Argentina and Bolivia.

    As a High Mountain Guide, Trekking Guide, and Physical Education Teacher, I have completed more than 50 ascents of Aconcagua through different routes.

    My philosophy is simple: a successful expedition is not only about reaching the summit, but about preparation, experience, responsible decisions, and above all, returning safely.

    My Story in the Mountains

    My name is Matias Zuñiga, and since 1997 I have dedicated my life to the mountains. I was born and live in Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes, where a passion for the mountains gradually became my profession and a way of life.

    For nearly three decades, I have guided high-altitude expeditions and traverses throughout Argentina and Bolivia, accompanying people from all over the world in some of South America’s most spectacular and demanding mountain environments. Over the years, I have completed more than 50 ascents of Aconcagua by different routes, including the Normal Route, the 360 Traverse, the former False Polish Route, and the Guanacos Route.

    My training as a High Mountain Guide, Trekking Guide, and Physical Education Teacher has provided me with the technical foundation to work professionally in the mountains. However, the most important lessons I have learned have come directly from experience: the importance of preparation, the ability to adapt, and the value of making sound decisions when conditions change.

    I believe a successful expedition is measured by much more than reaching a summit. It is measured by experience, the lessons learned, and, above all, by returning safely. This philosophy guides every expedition I organize and lead.

    Through Aconcagua Mountain, I share not only my experience, but also a way of understanding the mountains based on respect, responsibility, and genuine adventure.
